The two other occupants of the car were seriously injured.

GARDAÍ IN NEWBRIDGE are investigating after a 20-year-old man was killed in a single car crash close to the Co Kildare town.

It happened at around 7pm last night at Hawkfield, on the Newbridge to Milltown road. The car left the road and hit a tree.

The young man was a backseat passenger in the vehicle.

The two other occupants of the car – both men aged in their 20s – received serious but non life-threatening injuries.

All three were taken to Naas General Hospital where the 20-year-old was pronounced dead.

A section of the road is closed this morning as forensic tests continue.
