Caredoc workers accept pay proposals following strike action

Staff at the out-of-hours GP service held a 24-hour strike in the south-east on 18 December

CAREDOC STAFF HAVE accepted a pay proposal finalised between health unions and the employer, following recent strike action over the pay dispute by members of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) and Siptu.

Siptu said members have voted to accept a pay proposal in a ballot counted today, while INMO said its members accepted the proposals after concluding their ballot last week.

Staff at the out-of-hours GP service held a 24-hour strike in the south-east on 17 December. The acceptance of the pay proposals ends the threat of further industrial action.

Confirming that its members accepted the proposals, An INMO spokesperson said: “The out-of-hours and triage services provided by our members in Caredoc represent a crucial resource and one that is heavily relied on by patients and doctors across the country.”

SIPTU Organiser, Ger McNally, said: “SIPTU welcomes this outcome and believes it reflects the strong mandate of our members to secure fair and just pay increases in line with the Workplace Relations Commission agreement in relation to these workers.

“The local strike committee worked tirelessly throughout the process. Our members showed great strength, resolve and solidarity in bringing this dispute to a conclusion through the strategic use of industrial action that saw our members mount pickets for a day in December. This outcome will benefit workers and users of Caredoc services alike.”

He added: “SIPTU representatives look forward to working with Caredoc management and other stakeholders to ensure the agreed terms are implemented swiftly.”
