Man killed in north Dublin shooting

The incident occurred at Moatview Avenue in the early hours of this morning.

A MAN HAS been killed in a gangland shooting in north Dublin.

The incident occurred at 2.20am this morning at Moatview Avenue in Coolock. The 24-year-old victim, who was with a group of people when he was shot, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

His body has been removed from the scene to the city mortuary where a post mortem examination will be carried out this afternoon by the assistant state pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster.

It is understood the 24-year-old was known to gardaí. He had a number of convictions, including several firearms offences.

The killing is not believed to be connected to the Hutch-Kinahan feud.

A partially burned out black Audi A3, registration number 00 OY 5067, which gardaí believe is connected to the shooting, was found at a green area between The Griffith and Fairlawn Park, opposite the Clearwater Shopping Centre.

Superintendent Gerard Donnelly appealed for witnesses to come forward – including those who were with the victim at the time of the shooting.

For anybody who may have observed the black Audi A3 motorcar prior to the shooting or subsequent to the shooting.
I am also aware that this person was accompanied by a number of people both male and female at the time of the shooting so I would ask those people to please make contact with us.

“I am also appealing for anybody who may have seen anything suspicious in the Moatview Avenue are or in the area close to Martin’s pub in Priorswood between 2am and 2.30am to please make contact with us.”

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact Coolock garda station on 016664200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
