Man (21) remains in critical condition after being attacked with iron bar

A man arrested in connection with the incident is due in court today.

A 25-YEAR-old man is due in court this morning over an assault that left a 21-year-old man with critical injuries.

The suspect was arrested in the early hours of yesterday morning after gardaí responded to reports of an attack in a house on Blarney Street in Cork city.

The victim remains in critical condition after being taken to Cork University Hospital with what are understood to be serious head injuries.

It is believed he was hit several times over the head with an iron bar.

Local media reported that armed members of the Regional Support Unit provided backup support to gardaí searching the area.

The suspect was arrested under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act after being seen a short distance from the house.

He is due to appear before Cork District Court this morning.
