Man (50s) arrested after fatal stabbing in Cork city released without charge

A man in his 30s died following an incident in Hollyville, Hollyhill in Cork city in the early hours of yesterday morning.

A MAN HAS been released without charge in Co Cork after the death of a man in a stabbing incident in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Mark O’Connell, aged 38, died following an incident in Hollyville, Hollyhill in Cork city.

It is understood he was from Gurranabraher in Cork city.

Gardaí responded to reports of a “disturbance” involving two men in the area shortly after 4:30am on Sunday.

Mr O’Connell was brought to Cork University Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly afterwards

A post-mortem exam was carried out, the results of which are not being released “for operational reasons”, gardaí said.

A man in his 50s was arrested yesterday and he remained in custody until his release this evening as gardaí continue to appeal for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

A file will now be prepared for the DPP, gardaí said.
