PRESS PEOPLE ABOUT the features that their dream home would have and many mention plenty of space and a view of the sea. If this sounds like your answer, then turn your attention to Waterside House in Co Cork because it has both in spades. Located just a mile outside the popular town of Kinsale, less than 45 minutes from Cork city, this former B&B would make a wonderful family home.
A large dormer bungalow looking over the Bandon river, it offers beautiful views of the countryside with the added bonus of being a short walk into one of Ireland’s most popular seaside towns.
Sitting on a very private site that’s just under an acre in size, seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms make up a large part of the 268m² layout. The main social rooms inside comprise two large family rooms and a dining room that’s currently laid out to suit a B&B.
For more casual or smaller occasions, the kitchen also has space for dining, so there is ample choice for families of all sizes and those particularly families who enjoy hosting guests.
The house, which was built in 1987, faces south and enjoys the evening sunshine from the west. This home’s orientation is all about making the most of the views. The Bandon river can be seen from the sitting room window, while double doors lead out onto the patio that’s all set for outdoor entertaining.
Each of the seven bedrooms has an en suite but there is also a family bathroom. The bedrooms are spread across the two floors with four on the ground and the remaining three above. Many have built-in wardrobes, each one is generous in size and they all make the most of the views.
To the side of the house there’s also a detached two-storey garage that’s spacious in its own right and would surely make a handy home office or extra accommodation.
It’s most-likely the size and location that contribute to this home’s €1.2 million price tag. Whoever buys Waterside House will probably want to revamp the interior. The good news is that it has an energy rating of C2, so it’s reassuring to think that many of the upgrades could be mainly aesthetic.
For anyone who wants to be close to the coast as well as the city, Kinsale offers an ideal blend. There’s no question that Waterside House would make a brilliant base from which to enjoy both.
