Young man in his early 20s dies in two-car crash in Cork

Six others were taken to hospital after the collision.

A MAN IN his 20s was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash in Cork last night.

He had been travelling in a car with four other men in their early 20s when it collided with another vehicle.

The driver of the car  and a second passenger were both seriously injured and were taken to Cork University Hospital.

There were two women, aged in their late 20s and early 30s, in the second car involved in the collision. Both were taken to hospital with the three other male passengers from the other car, but their injuries are thought to not be serious.

The crash happened on the Cork to Ballincollig Road at an area known as Leemount Cross at about 8.30pm yesterday.

An examination of the crash site was carried out by garda forensic collision investigators and the road has since reopened to traffic.

The young man is the 68th person to die on Irish roads this year. That figure is 12 higher than the corresponding toll for the same time in 2015.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Ballincollig garda station 021 421 4080 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
