Daffodil Day looking to get 200 companies on board campaign

‘Our Company Cares’ initiative wants to get workers feeling creative about fundraising fun with colleagues.

WITH ONE IN three of Irish people expected to be affected by cancer at some point in their lifetime, cancer services are something many of us will avail of.

To that end, the Irish Cancer Society is hoping to get employees involved in thinking up ways to raise funds for their vital services in advance of this year’s Daffodil Day on 22 March. The ‘Our Company Cares’ drive aims to get at least 200 companies on board to find fun and creative ways to get colleagues involved in collecting cash. (We like one of their suggestions – a desk cleaning drive – in TheJournal.ie‘s less-than-immaculate HQ).

John McCormack, CEO of the Irish Cancer Society, said today that the demand on existing cancer care services – with 30,000 new cancer cases diagnosed in 2011 alone – meant that the society had to be innovative in raising funds. The overall target for Daffodil Day 2013 is €3.4m and Dell Ireland is already on board as a lead partner as well as with its 2,500 employees volunteering time and expertise to the campaign.
