The biggest Domino's operator in Ireland sold nearly €50m worth of pizzas last year

The Caldwells’ Tallaght outlet is one of the pizza chain’s busiest stores worldwide.

THE BIGGEST OPERATOR of Domino’s Pizza franchises in Ireland sold nearly €50 million worth of pizzas last year.

The UK-based Domino’s Pizza Group, which has a network of over 1,000 stores across six markets, has 50 outlets in the Republic and a further 29 in Northern Ireland.

Shorecal Limited, which is owned by Northern Irish businessmen Charles and Adrian Caldwell, operates roughly one fifth of the Domino’s Pizza franchises in Ireland.

The firm’s stores are based in the Dublin region, with its outlet in Tallaght consistently ranked as one of the busiest Domino’s Pizza franchises worldwide.

Accounts just published for Shorecal Limited, the firm behind the Caldwells’ Domino’s Pizza stores, show it registered a turnover of €49.2 million last year, an increase of €3.7 million on the figure for 2016.

The new filings also showed that the company made a profit of €7.8 million during the 12-month period compared to €6.2 million in 2016.

A note attached to the directors’ report stated that Shorecal Limited has plans to expand its presence in Ireland.

“The pizza delivery market is highly competitive and the group will seek new opportunities to open new stores whilst continuing to operate effectively and efficiently,” the report stated.

The filings also showed that the Irish group’s assets were up from €47.7 million to €48.9 million, while its liabilities were down €1.6 million to €16.4 million.

The average number of sales and distribution staff at the firm on a monthly basis was 456, an increase of 55 employees compared to 2016. Shorecal Limited paid an average wage of just under €17,900.

More stores

Charles and Adrian Caldwell acquired the Domino’s Pizza franchises for roughly €22 million from its former owners Kevin and Murph O’Driscoll in 2006.

The Caldwells also own a number of Domino’s Pizza outlets in Northern Ireland.

Earlier this year, the master franchiser for the chain in Ireland, Domino’s Pizza Group, stated that the fast food giant plans to expand its presence in the Republic.

Last year, Domino’s Pizza opened its first new outlet in Ireland in six years and announced plans to bring its store count in the Republic up to 75.

Sales at Domino’s Pizza Group rose by 15% to £1.16 billion in 2017. The growth was primarily driven in the UK where the company opened 95 new stores.
