Should Dublin get extra government funding due to its GDP contribution?

DCC chief executive Richard Shakespeare said the wider Dublin region generates more than half of Ireland’s GDP.

DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL’S chief executive has said that Dublin should receive increased government funding due to the area’s significant contribution to Ireland’s GDP.

Richard Shakespeare spoke at length on the council’s podcast What’s the Story, Dublin?, about the future of Dublin and how he hopes to boost the council’s revenue.

Shakespeare said that the wider Dublin region accounts for 54% of Ireland’s GDP, citing a figure included in a 2017 council report. He added that investment is needed to address issues such as vandalism, litter, dereliction and affordable housing.

So, we’re asking: Do you think Dublin should get more government funding due to its contribution to GDP?
