Eight charged over Clare modified car rallies

The eight will appear before Ennis District Court on 23 April.

EIGHT PEOPLE ARRESTED yesterday in connection with an unofficial modified car rally in Clare have been charged.

The eight were released on bail and will appear before Ennis District Court on 23 April.

Gardaí in Co. Clare say that they became aware of planned events involving the drivers of modified cars.

One event was organised in the North Clare area on the night of the 7 March on the promenade in Lahinch and attended by about 70 vehicles.

The cars made their way to the Cliffs of Moher and on to Doolin before going to Corkscrew Hill in Ballyvaughan where the main event occurred.

As a result of intelligence gathered by gardaí on the night of the event, searches were carried out yesterday at two houses in the county.

Eight people in total, one woman and seven men all in their teens or twenties, were arrested in connection with the incident.
