Showers are predicted throughout the weekend. Met Éireann

Ponchos and wellies will 'come in handy' as wild weather predicted for Electric Picnic

We really hope that you got a proper tent this year.

HEADING TO ELECTRIC Picnic? Don’t forget the rain gear.

Forecasters are predicting a wildcard weekend of weather in Stradbally, where around 80,000 people are expected for Ireland’s largest music festival.

Met Éireann says ponchos and wellies “could certainly come in handy,” with rain and gusty showers likely to affect most of the country at some point.

Friday will bring blustery southwest winds, so festivalgoers are advised to secure tent pegs and rain flies.

By 6pm, when the main acts take the stage, there should be “just the odd shower” across the midlands, according to Met Éireann meteorologist Ailís Hankinson.

It will also be slightly cooler on Friday. Highest temperatures across the country will range from 10 to 13 degrees.

Saturday morning looks set to be wet and windy, though conditions should ease to scattered showers by the afternoon.

Sunday will bring more scattered showers, but also sunny spells – good news for the headline acts closing out the weekend.

Temperatures will rise slightly for the final day, with highs of 15 to 18 degrees expected.
