TAOISEACH ENDA KENNY has “no plans at present” to meet US president-elect Donald Trump while he is in the United States at the end of this month.
Enda Kenny is travelling to New York and San Francisco for a trade mission.
A government spokesperson confirmed today that no meeting had been sought between the pair.
Kenny came in for criticism by some for his official statement following the election result.
Congratulations
The Taoiseach offered Trump his “sincere congratulations” on his success.
“Ireland and the United States have enjoyed a very close and warm relationship for many generations and I am confident that under his leadership our bilateral relations will continue to prosper.
“The government looks forward to working closely with our new colleagues in the White House,” he said.
He also congratulated the Vice President-elect, Mike Pence, who is believed to have Irish ancestry.
Kenny had a 10-minute phone call with Trump last week in which it was confirmed the Taoiseach will be invited to the White House for St Patrick’s Day in 2017.
