Energia customers face price increases up to €200 a year

The energy provider’s prices will increase from 9 October for home energy.

LAST UPDATE | 9 Sep 2025

ENERGIA CUSTOMERS ARE facing price increases up to €200 a year for electricity.

The energy provider’s prices will increase from 9 October for home energy.

The price increases affect customers of various energy packages as follows:

  • Energia Electricity customers – increase of 10.9% – €3.94 per week – €204.88 annually
  • Energia Dual Fuel customers – increase of 6% – €3.92 per week – €203.84 annually
  • Energia Smart Meter Electricity plan customers – increase of 12.1% – €3.73 per week – €193.96 annually
  • Energia Smart Meter Dual Fuel plan customers – increase of 6.2% – €3.71 per week – €192.92 annually

The price increases only apply to electricity, and not gas.

Along with the price increases, Energia will also be cutting the clean export guarantee (CEG) payment made to residential customers who generate an electricity surplus and export it back to the grid. The payment will decrease from 20c/kWh to 18.5c/kWh from 9 October.

Asked by The Journal why the payment to those who export additional energy to the grid is to decrease despite price increases for consumers, a spokesperson for Energia said:

“In line with the broader review of our rates that was undertaken, our current microgeneration export rate was also reviewed.

“As such, the decision was taken to update our microgeneration rate to reflect the current position of the broader market.

“Customers will continue to receive the old rate of 20c/kWh until 9th October when the new rate comes into effect.”

Enegria said that while it has worked to minimise the impact on customers, the price increases are “now unavoidable” due to substantial increases in electricity system operator and network changes.

The managing director of customer solutions at Energia, Gary Ryan, said the provider is reluctant to increase its prices and has absorbed several increases in system operator and network costs over the past three years.

He said the company is encouraging the government to further its direct exchequer investment into the network to offer electricity users “pricing stability”.

“We understand that some customers will experience difficulty and would encourage anyone experiencing such challenges to engage with us so we can continue to provide ongoing support.

“We partner with St Vincent de Paul, MABS, Alone, as well as other charities and urge customers to always contact us to find a solution.”
