Lightning now a problem as crews work to reconnect power

ESB crews worked in hazardous conditions yesterday when 17,000 customers were without power.

Updated at 8am

AROUND 500 CUSTOMERS are still without power this morning after Storm Rachel knocked 17,000 offline yesterday.

ESB Networks says around 400 customers may not have supply restored until later in the day – most of those customers are in the northwest.

The storm’s high winds battered the western coasts in particular. While the red warning for the storm may be gone – a new snow ice warning has now come into place.

People are advised to check ESB’s powercheck website for more information if they are still without power.

Eircom crews are also working to restore service after around 10-thousand of its customers were without service yesterday.
