Irish man to be extradited to Northern Ireland in connection with murder of Jennifer Dornan

Dornan, a 30-year-old mother-of-three, was found stabbed to death in Belfast following a house fire last August.

A 37-YEAR-old Irish man is to be extradited to Northern Ireland in connection with the murder of Belfast woman Jennifer Dornan last August.

The Public Prosecution Service of Northern Ireland (PPSNI) confirmed this evening that the man is to be prosecuted for the crimes of murder and arson.

“The PPS has commenced extradition proceedings to return the defendant to Northern Ireland for prosecution,” the PPS said in a statement.

The accused man was arrested earlier by gardaí on foot of a European Arrest Warrant and appeared before a court in Dublin.

He has been remanded in custody until 22 February.

“Senior prosecutors, from both the PPS’s Serious Crime Unit and Appeals and International Section, have worked closely with the PSNI investigating team over recent months to expedite the prosecution decision in this case and commence extradition proceedings,” said PPS Assistant Director Marianne O’Kane.

Dornan, a 30-year-old mother-of-three was found dead at her home in west Belfast following a house fire on Sunday 2 August 2015.

It later emerged the 30-year-old had been stabbed to death and her house was set on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence.
