7 events to bring the kids to this weekend - from Poggle to outer space

Planning a fun-filled weekend? Here’s our pick of the best events around the country.

DUBLIN

Poggle: This forty-minute show at The Ark is a sensory riot of clapping hands, live music and comedy as Poggle explores the forest and finds a magical tree. Ideal for fortifying small imaginations.

Simon Home Run: This Saturday Dublin Simon Community is hosting their annual fun run in the Phoenix Park, and this year the focus is on raising funds to build homes for our homeless. There will be lots of kid-friendly activities, but mostly, this is an opportunity for you and your family to help make a change to the housing crisis.

Family Day with Ceol Le Chéile: Bring the kids along to the National Concert Hall on Sunday where members of Ceol Le Chéile will be on hand to show everyone how to play the bodhran and tin whistle before a family friendly concert in the Studio.

Busker Fleadh Smithfield: Smithfield continues to be the place to be at the weekend and this Sunday is hosting a day-long concert featuring buskers from all over the world. Expect to see full-on choirs taking to the streets, as well as incredible up and comers.

Sallins Tradfest: The fifth annual Sallins Tradfest is taking place this weekend, and while traditional music is the highlight, when it comes to kids you can expect arts and crafts workshops, circus performances and Irish language story-telling to take centre stage.

Trail Kids @ The Carlow Walking Festival: This Saturday Carlow Walking Festival is running Trail Kids in Kilbrannish Forest, where the whole family can learn the basic skills of trail running, and how to navigate a forest environment.

CORK

Spectacular Universe: Space Week kicks off this Friday night at Blackrock Observatory with a screening of The Farthest, a film documenting the tale of Voyager and its incredible journeys. A must for would-be space explorers.
