TWO MEN HAVE died after a fire in an apartment block in Mallow, Co. Cork late last night.

The fire at Granary Court on St Josephs’s Road happened at about 12.10 am. Gardaí arrived at the scene and rescued a man and a woman from the building.

Gardaí say that they then attempted to re-enter the building but were unable to do so because of excessive smoke.

Fire services then entered the building a short time later and the bodies of the two deceased men were discovered.

Both men were then removed to the morgue at Cork University Hospital where post-mortems will be carried out.
