Flats evacuated in Co Antrim town after petrol bomb attack

The PSNI said a ground-floor flat was set on fire due to a petrol bomb attack.

A NUMBER OF flats had to be evacuated in a Co Antrim town yesterday after a petrol bomb attack.

At around 10.40pm last night, it was reported that a ground-floor flat was on fire in the Carnduff Drive area of Ballymena.

PSNI officers and fire fighters attended the scene and the PSNI said it believes the fire resulted from a petrol bomb being thrown through the bedroom window of the flat.

A number of windows were also smashed but the fire and subsequent damage was contained to the bedroom.

“Thankfully, no one was inside at the time and there were no injuries reported,” said a PSNI spokesperson.

As a precaution, residents from the neighbouring flats were evacuated for a short time before returning to their homes.

The PSNI said the fire is being treated as deliberate arson and it has appealed to anyone with any information to make contact with police.
