FSAI orders recall of a Dunnes' Café Sol salad due to presence of listeria

The affected batch has been removed by retailers.

THE FOOD SAFETY Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has issued a product recall due to the presence of listeria monocytogenes in Dunnes Stores’ Café Sol batch of pesto pasta and chicken.

The impacted product has a use by date of 25 September 2025 and weighs 224g.

According to the FSAI, retailers have been requested to remove the implicated batch from sale and display recall notices at point-of-sale.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.

In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications.

Some people are more vulnerable to listeria monocytogenes infections, including pregnant women, babies, and people with weakened immune systems, including the elderly.

The incubation period (time between initial infection and first symptoms appearing) is on average 3 weeks but can range between 3 and 70 days.

Earlier this year, the FSAI issued an alert over a listeria outbreak linked to a substantial recall of hundreds of ready-to-heat meals.

Nine cases of listeriosis (the disease caused by listeria bacteria) were detected at the time, while it was confirmed that one person died with the disease.
