Man's body discovered in reservoir after woman hospitalised following attack in Kildare house

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to a serious assault at a house in Oaklawn West, Leixlip.

LAST UPDATE | 25 Nov 2025

THE BODY OF a man in his 50s was recovered from Leixlip Reservoir yesterday morning, shortly after a woman was found seriously injured at a nearby home in Co Kildare.

Emergency services were first called to the house at Oaklawn West shortly after 6am, where a fire had broken out and the woman had suffered serious injuries in an assault involving a weapon.

Neighbours described being startled by alarms and sirens as firefighters tackled the blaze, which caused significant damage to the upstairs of the house and left adjoining homes with minor smoke and heat damage.

The woman was treated at the scene, before being taken to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown.

It is understood her son, aged in his early 20s, had left for work shortly before the incident.

Gardaí have confirmed that they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the case.

A short time after the assault and fire was reported, gardaí searching the Leixlip Reservoir, a roughly seven-minute drive from the home, located the body of a man in his 50s.

The fire at the property was visible from nearby roads and slowed early-morning traffic as emergency services worked at the scene.

Both locations remain sealed off for forensic examination, and gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area to come forward.

They are particularly keen to hear from people who were near Oaklawn West, the N4 or the reservoir between 5.30am and 8am, especially those with dash-cam or phone footage.

Anyone with information can contact Leixlip Garda Station on (01) 666 7800, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
