Fake document circulating online An Garda Síochána

Gardaí aware of fake document shared on social media purporting to be 'operational directive'

The false document, which is dated 9 April, advises gardaí on how to respond to the fuel price protests.

AN GARDA SÍOCHÁNA has said a document circulating online purporting to be an operational directive to senior management is fake.

The false document, which is dated 9 April, advises gardaí on how to respond to the fuel price protests.

It tells them to “identify and record all vehicle registration numbers, with particular focus on vehicles causing obstruction”. It also says not to approach vehicles if it isn’t safe to do so, and to always comply with the policies of the force.

In a social media post this morning, An Garda Síochána told the public the document was fake.

“An Garda Síochána is aware of highlighted [sic] FAKE document which is circulating on social media and messaging apps.

“This is not a genuine document,” they said.

“An Garda Síochána has regularly highlighted the rise in the level of misinformation, disinformation and fake news.”
