Each week, we ask someone based in Ireland with a passion for interiors to share one photo of their favourite spot in their home.
Georgina Monaghan lives in a three-bed semi-detached house on the outskirts of Mullingar, Co Westmeath with her husband and two daughters.
This week, Georgina (@georgie_interior_) chatted us through her favourite spot: her newly decorated bedroom.
This room was a project that had somewhat been on the long finger. It hadn’t been redecorated since our eldest girl Freya was born eight years ago, so my husband I decided
to rearrange the layout of the room and added board and batten to our new feature wall.
I am really into strong colours at the moment and I wanted to try something different so for the board and batten, doors, wardrobes and dresser (which are not pictured) I went for a strong green. For the walls, I went with an earthy tone colour which brings an overall calming and relaxing feeling to the room.
It would have to be the board and batten on the feature wall behind our bed. This was probably the biggest undertaking in the project and it was a joint effort with my husband Mark. He designed and installed it and I helped with the painting.
The lockers would be a very close second. These used to belong to Mark’s grandmother and were originally mahogany. I brought these back to life using my go-to colour Ivory Tusk from Colourtrend and adding some new handles.
To be honest there wasn’t much tidying to be done as the room is not long completed. Well, apart from the laundry that had to be sorted and the mess our girls left after having their bath! They love to use our bedroom to pamper themselves while watching the television.
I had decided to redecorate our room last year and originally I had totally different colour scheme in mind. While out shopping one day I came across a wonderful cushion and it all started from there. Inspiration can be hard to find but sometimes it can just come to you when you least expect it. I was so glad that I didn’t go ahead with my plans last year.
As the room is newly decorated and I am really happy with how it turned out, I would have to say no. A lot of time and effort went into redecorating it, even down to painting the floorboards.
