Is Gerry Adams giving up on Twitter?

The Sinn Féin President is to take a ‘sos’ from the microblogging site according to a tweet this morning.

‘THIS TWIT IS going for sos’. Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams has dropped a hint that he may be taking a break from his hugely popular and oftentimes bizarre Twitter account.

Since he began tweeting in February, Adams has become the most followed member of the Dáil and has attracted international attention for tweeting about subjects such as his dog snowy and the same sex marriage between his two teddy bears.

But his +30,000 followers may have had their last insight into Adams’ world for the foreseeable future with the Louth TD tweeting this morning that he is to take a break from the microblogging site.

In an interview with TheJournal.ie earlier this year Adams said that his tweets were not a “sinister Sinn Féin plan” as some had suggested but were just a reflection of his personality.

Adams has been a prolific tweeter with 1,350 tweets since he joined the site and his message this morning gives the impression that he might find it hard to stay away for too long.
