FINDING A HOME that matches your budget without compromising your list of must-haves can be tricky, but we’re here to make that task easier.
Each week we round up a selection of homes currently on the market in Ireland around the same price point, giving you a snapshot of what a particular amount could get you.
This week, our budget is exactly €550,000. From a new build in Wexford or a semi-detached spot close to the action in Dublin, here’s a selection of homes in that price range.
A location overlooking Rosslare Harbour is an appealing characteristic of this four-bedroom, four-bathroom detached home in Wexford. Interesting architectural details, including expansive windows across the front to maximise the panoramic view, make this property stand out from the crowd. You’ll be just 200 metres from a beautiful and private sandy beach, while also nicely situated at the edge of the development, providing ample privacy.
The house itself is finished to a high standard, with an oak staircase, a walled garden, as well as a detached garage and off-street parking. This home is located quite close to Rosslare and Kilrane, you have supermarkets and schools at your fingertips, not to mention the Rosslare Europort, which offers daily ferry services to the UK and mainland Europe.
While this semi-detached three-bedroom, two-bathroom home in Glasnevin might require a little updating cosmetically, it has been well-maintained. The home is bright with a spacious sitting area and interesting fireplace surrounds. The back garden is large, with mature trees and the front garden provides off-street parking.
The home is situated in a quiet, family-friendly cul de sac, in a nice area for city-centre commuters. The Botanic Gardens are a quick hop away, plus a selection of good primary and secondary schools. DCU is also nearby, providing an easy journey for third level students or faculty, and with a quick 20-minute bus journey, you can zip into the city centre.
For €550,000 in Co Waterford, you’ll find a four-bedroom, three-bathroom detached home on a whopping four acres – and a tennis court. In addition to a spot to practice your forehand, the property has fruit trees, a vegetable garden a green house and outbuildings. The home itself has an interesting, light-filled entryway with a double height ceiling, which would provide a nice welcome home each day. A sunken kitchen provides an interesting open layout for prep as well as dining, with light flowing in from the garden beyond.
Nearby Woodstown provides the opportunity for hunting as well as golfing, and the town has a beautiful sandy beach as well. Dunmore East, a popular holiday spot, is just six kilometres away, where you’ll find all manner of restaurants and pubs.
For this budget, you’ll find quite a grand home in Cobh, Co Cork that was built in 1898, complete with a striking staircase and twelve foot ceilings, perfect for a dramatic entrance. With six bedrooms and three bathrooms, the high ceilings add to the feeling of spaciousness, and the roof was recently replaced.
The house is set on 1.3 acres, with a separate greenhouse and manicured grounds, as well as a view of the harbour from the front garden. With this much space, it might come as a surprise that Cobh town is only 500 metres away, with the train station just a quick walk as well.
