THE 250th ANNIVERSARY of Jane Austen’s birth fell last month.

The much-loved author wrote some of the most popular novels in the English language, which critiqued 18th century society through depictions of women and their dependence on the institution of marriage for financial security and status.  

Austen’s novels have been adapted for stage and screen countless times, a testament to her enduring popularity.
