MOVIE BUFFS WILL know that Parknasilla Hotel in Sneem, Co Kerry set the scene for Yargos Lanthimos’ Oscar nominated movie, The Lobster. And yes, although it takes place in a pretty grim dystopia, at least Colin Farrell, John C Reilly and Rachel Weisz had the luxury of being surrounded by the glorious Ring of Kerry.

In this respect, the movie posed as a pretty good advertisement for those who dream of upping sticks to move to the countryside. Today, home hunters are in luck as Long Lake House, just a short drive from the movie’s location, is now on the market.

Built for a mystery German millionaire in the 80s, Long Lake House is a three-storey split-level home with an exterior that’s as rugged and intricate as the Kerry landscape that encompasses it.

Overlooking its own pond with a Lake Geneva-style fountain, Long Lake House soaks up the mountain ranges of Cork and Kerry that can be seen beyond the wonderful  neighbouring forestry and fresh water.

Perhaps one of the biggest tell-tale signs of the luxury and thought that went in to decorating Long Lake House are the materials used within. Blue Pearl granite flooring, wall-to-wall marble and timbered ceilings, complete with skylights, are just some of the stand-out features that make up the shell of this home so impressive.

As you would expect, the kitchen features the toughest, longest lasting finishes. An over-sized cooking island with a stainless steel sink, cupboards built by Siemens and kitted out appliances by Miele and Neff, along with granite countertops, mean that new homeowners can get chopping straight away.

A large pantry, situated off the kitchen, has a door that brings you to the back garden.

It would be criminal for a house like this not to take full advantage of the surrounding countryside. Floor to ceiling windows surround the open plan living and dining rooms and let the natural light pour in, emphasising the amount of space this home is blessed with.

As a split-level home, the third level, which is at ground level to the back of the house, is home to three guest bedrooms. Impressively, each room has its own hallway, built in wardrobes, heart-of-oak parquet flooring, an en-suite bathroom and even a private outdoor deck.

The master bathroom, with separate toilet room, has a Blue Pearl granite and Villeroy Boch quarter round jacuzzi bath with overhead shower. A laundry chute leaves here to the ground floor laundry room.

With one breath of fresh air, outdoorsy types and water sports lovers will know that they have absolutely nothing to complain about. Direct access to the water, a boat house, a boat ramp, a pontoon and also a pier, are all within arm’s reach.

A separate three car garage, as well as a cedar-wood cabin, that’s home to three more bedrooms, a dining/living room, a kitchen and a bathroom, means you’ll no doubt have friends vying to be guests at Long Lake House. And who could blame them?

Long renowned for its unbeatable surroundings and breathtaking views, the Ring of Kerry needs very little introduction. Long Lake House is a short drive from the towns of Killarney and Kenmare as well as the neighbouring area of west Cork, making it an tranquil haven in an unbeatable location.

Long Lake House, Tahilla, Sneem, Co Kerry is on sale for €3,250,000 from Sherry Fitzgerald Daly via Daft.ie.
