The Daily PollDURING THIS YEAR’S Late Late Toy Show, which aired in its usual 9:35pm to midnight time slot, many viewers took to social media to question whether an earlier start time would be more appropriate.
Fine Gael TD Brian Brennan raised the issue with Kevin Bakhurst, director-general at RTÉ, at yesterday’s Oireachtas Media Committee meeting. He said the late timing had effectively turned the programme into “a children’s stamina Olympics”, adding that nobody in his household “got a gold medal”.
In response, Bakhurst told the committee that RTÉ previously considered moving the Toy Show to an earlier time slot, but said making such a change would “almost like getting rid of the Angelus”.
