Letter bomb sent to police headquarters

The PSNI labelled the senders “mindless and foolish”.

THE PSNI HAVE labelled would-be bombers “mindless and foolish” after a viable device was sent through the post to its headquarters.

The bomb, sent to the east Belfast building on Knock Road, has now been made safe by army experts.

The package, which arrived earlier today, was in a brown jiffy bag and addressed with a white, typed label.

“This is a mindless and foolish act that could have resulted in the serious injury of any person handling the package,” said Superintendent Sam Donaldson.

“Although we have no information to suggest there may be other similar packages in the postal system, I would encourage people to be vigilant.”

The road outside the HQ was closed for a time today.
