Delays on Luas Red Line after collision with car

Bad news for commuters.

Updated: 13.15

THE LUAS RED line service has been disrupted after a collision between a tram and a car.

The incident occurred just off Queen Street in the city centre.

IMG_20150522_122657 Matej Premzl Matej Premzl

Earlier, trams were only running from Saggart/Tallaght to Blackhorse and from Smithfield to the Point.

Service has since resumed, but delays are expected until about 2pm.

The Luas released a statement apologising for any inconvenience caused.

Tickets were valid on Dublin Bus, and the Luas Green Line was not affected.

It’s just so easy to miss that massive silver tram with ringing bells travelling along the train tracks when you’re driving around town. How does this keep happening?

Simple really, how many people see an amber light and go faster? and then are much to fast to stop for the red light. Amber means stop if safe to do so, you should stop unless you are going to fast to safetly stop.
Also the number of times I gotten the finger and or a horn, because I refused to move onto and block a juction (aka there traffic on the other side stopped and I have no where go) is mind blowing. People seem to have to get as far as head as possible even if in the end they only get 5 feet and cause block others. selfishness is the problem

I will admit the timing on traffic lights here seem to be set to have you stop on most of them which just cause people to get annoyed and speed. I leave my house at 6:25 and can see the traffic lights are green (no traffic on the road) and the second they see my car they start going red, then the next one get me too, again the road is empty with no other traffic most morning, The light stop be set up try to have as few people stop as possible because it makes traffic flow better, doesn’t piss people off as much. and if someone is speeding then the lights should be set to change to red then. Aka if you traffic at the speed limit you are rewards by as few stop as possible…. my little rant over

It would piss me off if the culprit beside me or coming in opposite direction is breaking the speed limit and lights change to red because of someone else speeding.

It looks like the motorist was trying to break the light’s while turning right into the oncoming Luas. Traffic light’s are there for a reason not a game of Russian Roulette.

Maybe they didn’t see the lights – it’s just flat road is it ?
Sometimes you can be distracted by something ahead and you lapse into “open road” mind – or just look at something at the point where you should notice the lights – speed bumps Ted ! sure it’s 30 m.p.h. zone why not ?

I wonder how much of a pension an engineer from Dublin Council or C.I.E. gets ?

If you run a red light and hit a tram then you should be taking the tram, bus or bicycle for a long stretch instead of driving. Careless Driving and Dangerous Driving charges need to be dished out more often and idiots taken off the road – I include inability to use roundabouts and motorway lanes under Careless Driving as well.

Hopefully everyone involved in the crash is okay.

Don’t confuse national density figures with local.
Belgium has has over 2 1/2 times Ireland’s density.
Brussels has similar density to Dublin.
Denmark has a population of just over 5 million
ROI has a population of just over 4.5 million
Copenhagen has an almost identical population to Dublin
Presumably you’re free ry of rural Ireland and you’re part of the “we all hate Dublin” brigade.
Dublin city’s official population is probably less than 800k . Taking in the GDA, that population reaches approx 1.6 to 1.8
Maybe you’ll give Belfast some credit. The official population of Belfast is less than 300k. The GBA population is closer to 800k.
Dublin isn’t in the league of Limerick or the beautiful city of Galway, despite what you’re anti Dublin mentality would like to believe.
