Traffic on the M50 this morning The Journal

'Major event' on M50 and other travel disrupted by flooding from Storm Chandra

A number of train stations have been closed and roads have been flooded.

A ‘MAJOR EVENT’ has been declared on the M50 between Junction 13 at Dundrum and 12 at Firhouse in Dublin due to heavy rain causing flooding.

Only one lane on the stretch of the busy motorway is open, Transport Infrastructure Ireland spokesperson Seán O’Neill  told RTÉ Radio this morning.

He asked any motorists who need to use that part of the M50 to delay their journeys if possible.

“We have crews on site, we’re dealing with the incident, but I do not have a time yet on when the issue will be cleared,” O’Neill said.

Local authorities in Louth, Dublin and Wexford have reported flooding with other areas also believed to be affected.

Rail services into Dublin are impacted due to the closure of the Phoenix Park Tunnel, with Hazelhatch/Newbridge services to Grand Canal Dock diverted into Heuston Station.

In Louth, Platin Bridge in Drogheda is currently impassable due to flooding. In Wexford, Island Road  is also closed due to flood water levels

A Status Yellow wind warning for the entire country began at 3am and will remain in place until 11pm, with a separate Status Yellow rain warning is in effect for counties Carlow, Kilkenny, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow and Waterford.
