CALLING ANYONE WITH a love of property TV shows. Here’s an opportunity to own a home designed by one of Ireland’s most well-known architects.

While this chateau-style home may look like a period property, the house was actually designed by architect and environmentalist Duncan Stewart. Now on the market for €1.4 million, this five-bed home looks like something you’d find in the French countryside rather than in Malahide, north Co Dublin.

As you approach the house up the driveway, you’re met with an entrance with four grand pillars that frame the front door. The house stands on almost two acres that are mainly made up of lawn and mature evergreen trees. The location couldn’t be more private even if it’s not in the depths of the countryside.

There is plenty of parking to the front and even two detached garages that add symmetry as well as storage. Straight away you can see the potential Cranford Hall has when it comes to space. One of the garages could let you live the work from home dream.

Inside, the front door leads you to the bright double height hall with its gallery landing and staircase tucked to one side. The hall is a place to relax in in itself – all you’d need to do is light the fire and pull up a chair.

The lounge is formal in design and has plenty of space and light. It links to the dining room and then the kitchen and breakfast ensuring both great flow and views. Malahide Estuary can be seen from the south-facing gable the kitchen.

For less formal occasions, there is a cosier family room that’s tucked away from the grander spaces. And for relations or friends with limited mobility, the ground floor has a handy guest bedroom and shower room.

There is another lounge upstairs, so there’s no shortage of spaces to entertain from. This third reception room adds even more luxury with French doors that open onto a balcony to take in the great views.

The remaining four bedrooms and the family bathroom complete this floor.

With Malahide about 2 km away, Cranford Hall lets your enjoy the countryside and one of the county’s busiest villages in equal measure. Outdoor lovers will see no end to the activities both on and off land they can avail of, while plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes will keep the social butterfly happy.

Of course, this home is an ideal situation for those of us still working remotely, but with the M1/M50 motorway with links to the airport as well as the city centre, trips shouldn’t be too taxing at all.

Cranford Hall, Estuary Road, Malahide, Co Dublin is on the market for €1,400,000 through Gallagher Quigley.
