Man arrested following hit-and-run death of cyclist in Meath last Friday
A man in his 40s has been detained by Gardaí following the death of cyclist Edward (Ned) McLoughlin
GARDAÍ HAVE ARRESTED a man today as part of their investigation into the death of a cyclist in his 80s following a hit-and-run in Co Meath last Friday morning.
Edward (Ned) McLoughlin, from Trim, Co Meath, was found unresponsive at the scene in Batterstown, Ballivor. Gardaí and emergency services responded to the fatal collision on the R156 shortly after 10am last Friday.
The driver of the vehicle involved failed to remain at the scene.
Mr McLoughlin was taken to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown where he was subsequently pronounced dead.
Gardaí arrested a man in his 40s and have detained him at Trim Garda station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. They can hold him there for up to 24 hours for questioning.
