LAST UPDATE | 2 Nov

A MAN IN his 20s was yesterday arrested after gardaí responded to reports of a man armed with what appeared to be a firearm travelling on the M4 in Kilcock, Co Kildare.

Gardaí responded to the initial reports shortly before 9am yesterday.

The man’s vehicle was located by gardaí and following a “lengthy managed containment operation”, the vehicle and motorist were intercepted in Tallaght in Dublin shortly after 10:30am.

Two garda vehicles suffered minor damage in the course of the incident. No one required immediate medical attention.

The man, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was arrested, and an imitation firearm was recovered.

The arrested man was detained at a garda station in Co Kildare under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939. He has since been charged.

Investigations remain ongoing into the incident.
