A MAN WILL appear at a special sitting of Galway District Court today over the murder of John Kenny, who was found dead last week in the pub he ran in Oughterard, Co Galway.
The man in his late 30s was arrested on Wednesday evening in Galway city, and remains in custody.
The body of teacher and publican Mr Kenny, 56, was discovered by relatives last Sunday afternoon, with some reports saying it was his daughter who made the grim find.
Post mortem results showed the father of four, who taught at a secondary school in Athenry as well as running the family-owned pub, had died as a result of a violent assault.
Friends and relatives gathered in Oughterard yesterday for the victim’s funeral. Gardaí have asked to speak to anyone who was in the pub on Saturday night, between 30 and 40 people in all.
