GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING after a man was found dead in a car which caught fire on the M4 motorway.
The incident happened at around 4pm on Monday afternoon when a car – believed to be a dark coloured Opel Zafira – went on fire in the eastbound lane of the M4 in Westmeath, around one kilometre from Kinnegad.
Emergency services found the man in his early 50s dead inside the car. It is unclear as yet what the cause of death was.
Gardaí at Mullingar have asked any motorists who may have seen the car driving in an erratic way on the M4 yesterday afternoon, or anyone with any information about the incident, to contact them.
