Search underway for man who went overboard from ferry in Irish Sea

The man was travelling on a P&O Ferries vessel sailing from Cairnryan in Scotland.

A SEARCH OPERATION is underway in the Irish Sea for a man who went overboard while travelling on a ferry.

Both the Irish and British coast guards are conducting the search with assistance from the RNLI.

The man was travelling on a P&O Ferries vessel sailing from Cairnryan in Scotland to Larne in Co Antrim.

The RNLI said its help was requested this afternoon and it launched its all-weather lifeboat at 1:25pm.

Donaghadee RNLI was later requested to join the search, and the crew launched their all-weather lifeboat at 2.45pm.

“A Coastguard helicopter is also involved in the ongoing operation while crew on other vessels in the area are also assisting,” an RNLI spokesperson said.
