Man in his 40s shot dead by lone gunman in Dublin

Gardaí are investigating after the man was shot dead on a road in Finglas in north Dublin this evening.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING after a man in his 40s was shot dead on a road in north Dublin this evening.

The shooting happened at around 5pm on the Ballycoolin Road in Finglas. Gardaí said the man was shot by a lone gunman.

The victim was taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown where he was pronounced dead.

The scene has been preserved so that a technical examination can be carried out by investigators. The Ballycoolin Road is closed between the Premier Business Park and Cappagh Road and is expected to remain closed overnight.

Gardaí have asked for anyone who witnessed the shooting to contact Finglas Garda Station on 01 666 7500, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
