LONDON’S METROPOLITAN POLICE has played down an incident at Heathrow airport earlier where there were reports of a man threatening to blow himself up in the departures lounge of the terminal 5 building.
Sky News reported earlier reported that there was a man in the departures lounge of the terminal building who was in a stand off with armed police and was threatening to blow himself up.
However, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan police told TheJournal.ie that this report was “entirely inaccurate” and that a man’s possessions were searched as part of a routine operation, adding that the man involved was fully compliant throughout.
The incident was stood down after police satisfied themselves that there was no danger and there were no arrests.
The man in question was allowed to continue his journey.
