'There are divided opinions about the green runner': Martina shares her pop-of-colour hallway

‘I don’t usually worry about stuff matching.’

EACH WEEK, WE ask someone based in Ireland with a passion for interiors to share one photo of their favourite spot in their home.

Martina Creevey lives in a three-bedroom semi-detached house in Lucan with her husband, Paul, and their dog, Paddy.

“I have loved interiors from as long as I remember,” says Martina. “I am forever doing things in my home. What inspires me is my love of colour. I love natural woods, too, and try to mix them in together.”

If I think something will look good, I will give it a go – not that it always works out!

This week, Martina (@martinacreevey) chatted us through her favourite spot: her hallway.

What do you love about this part of your home?

I love that it’s bright and bold. I think the hallway says a lot about the rest of the house. It’s very welcoming and has a mix of new and old items.

What’s your favourite object in here and why?

It has to be my green runner on the stairs. It certainly has been a talking point at times, and opinions have been divided! I live in the house and I look at it everyday and love it. Also for my bit of ‘old’ in the hall, I bought a cabinet from DoneDeal and decided to give it a yellow makeover. Again, there was a lot of eye rolling, but it suits the hall and I like that it is an upcycled piece.

What was your inspiration when you were putting this room together?

My inspiration for the hall sort of evolved itself. I had no real clear vision and have quite an eclectic style, so it all just eventually came together. I don’t usually worry about stuff matching. If I like something, I will go with the idea and generally it works out okay.

Be honest: how much tidying did you do before taking this photo?

To be honest, I didn’t do any real tidying as the hall kind of maintains itself. I have a gallery wall going up the stairs which could certainly do with a dusting, but other than that, the hall is fairly maintenance-free. I also have the hallway tiled with an old fashioned tile which are a joy to clean.

Is there anything in here you’d like to change?

I have been thinking about changing the interior of my front door as it’s white and I would like to jazz it up, but as of yet I haven’t been brave enough.
