Emergency department at Cork's Mercy University Hospital closed due to flooding

A spokesperson for the hospital said that they are ‘working diligently’ to restore full functionality as quickly as possible.

THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT at Mercy University Hospital (MUH) in Cork city has been temporarily closed due to flooding.

The hospital is situated on Grenville Place close to Bachelor’s Quay by the River Lee on the outskirts of Cork city centre.

The A&E has been closed for essential maintenance and to ensure the safety of patients and staff.

In a statement the hospital says that anyone requiring urgent medical attention should consider alternative care options such as their out of hours GP service, local chemists and injury units. Details of area injury units can be found on the HSE website.

In the event of an emergency or life-threatening condition, members of the public can contact emergency services by phoning 112 or 999.

A spokesperson for the hospital said that they are “working diligently” to restore full functionality as quickly as possible. Updates on the reopening will be provided as soon as they are available.
