Police say they are not seeking anyone else in connection with this investigation at this point.

A MAN HAS been charged with murder after a fatal stabbing in west Belfast last night.

The PSNI received a report at around 8.15pm that a man aged in his 30s had been stabbed in Mulberry Park in Twinbrook.

The victim has been named locally as Shane Lowry.

“Officers attended, along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service. Sadly, he was pronounced dead,” Detective Chief Inspector Tom Phillips said.

A man, aged 32, was arrested on suspicion of murder.

He has since been charged with murder and possession of a blade or point and is expected to appear before Lisburn Magistrates’ Court on tomorrow.

Police say they are not seeking anyone else in connection with this investigation at this point.

SDLP councillor for West Belfast Paul Doherty has said there is shock in the local community.

“Nobody wants to wake up to something like this on their doorsteps,” said Doherty, “but I would ask people to support police as they carry out their investigation into what happened here.

“I would urge anyone with any further information to come forward to police.”

Meanwhile, local Sinn Féin MLA Danny Baker said last night’s incident was “very traumatic and heartbreaking”.

“The PSNI are continuing their investigations and I would ask people not to speculate,” said Baker.

“If you have any information please come forward.”
