Negotiator called to Drogheda Courthouse after prisoner stand-off

Six prisoners barricaded themselves into the holding area of the courthouse and refused to come out.

A GARDA NEGOTIATOR was called to Drogheda Courthouse this afternoon after a stand-off involving a number of prisoners.

Six prisoners barricaded themselves into the holding area in the courthouse just before 1pm today and refused to allow any access to the room.

A trained garda negotiator was brought to the scene.

The men, who were attending the court for separate hearings, did not make any demands or negotiation attempts during the stand-off.

The incident ended at 3.10pm after just over two hours when the men emerged voluntarily from the holding area.

There were no injuries reported in the incident.

A garda investigation will be carried out to establish if any damage was done to the property.
