Should news bulletins have a dedicated segment for the arts?

Brendan Gleeson has called for an arts section on RTÉ’s Six One News.

ACTOR BRENDAN GLEESON has said that he would like to see a dedicated section for the arts on RTÉ’s Six One News.

Speaking to RTÉ last week, the actor said that a regular arts segment on the six o’clock news – similar to the sports coverage – would be a “great testament” to the late Sean Rocks and to President Michael D. Higgins as he nears the end of his term in office.

Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD, Sinn Féin’s spokesperson for arts and culture, has backed the idea, saying that this would “strengthen the visibility” of the arts.

So, let us know what you think: Should news bulletins have a dedicated segment for the arts?
