NTA confirms F-Spine of BusConnects will go live next month after details ‘leaked’ online

The National Transport Authority said more information will be made available in the coming weeks.

THE NATIONAL TRANSPORT Authority has confirmed that Phase 7 of BusConnects, the F-Spine, will go live next month after details “leaked online”.

The first phase of Bus Connects started in June 2021 with the introduction of the H-Spine, which links the city centre to the north-east of Dublin in places such as Howth, Malahide, Raheny and Donaghmede.

The F-spine involves services running from Tallaght/Templeogue through the city centre and on to Finglas/Charlestown.

The overall BusConnects plan involves the redesign of Dublin’s bus network, as well as investments in fleet and infrastructure.

Under BusConnects, 110 electric buses have been introduced into service.

Speaking earlier this year, the NTA said that new BusConnects routes have gained more passenger numbers and improved more on punctuality than the non-updated parts of the Dublin Bus network.

Up to the end of 2024, passenger numbers in areas where the new network has been implemented have increased by 48%.

In contrast, the rest of the network has seen an increase in passengers of only 8%.

The most recent change under Bus Connects was Phase 6 – an overhaul of several routes in north Dublin in January, including replacing the 11 and the 13 with the 19 and introducing two 24 hour ‘spines’, the E1 and E2.

In a post this morning, Dublin Commuters – an advocacy group for public transport in and active travel in Greater Dublin – said that the dates for Phase 7 had “leaked online” and that the launch date would be Sunday, 19 October.

It posted screenshots of details which were briefly published on the Transport for Ireland website but have since been taken down.

In a statement to The Journal, an NTA spokesperson confirmed that Phase 7 of BusConnects will go live on Sunday, 19 October.

It was further confirmed that Phase 7 includes the F-Spine and associated routes.

“More detailed information will be made available in the coming weeks,” added the spokesperson.
