Due to Covid-19, BreastCheck appointments are delayed by up to a year.
BreastCheck is Ireland’s free breast screening service for women aged 50-69. Breast screening involves having a mammogram (X-ray) of your breasts at a BreastCheck clinic or mobile screening unit. We invite you for screening after you turn 50 because your risk of breast cancer increases with age.
However, due to Covid-19, BreastCheck appointments are delayed by up to a year. This means you may wait three years for your appointment. If you are due your first appointment, you may be 53 before you are invited. Women who have been waiting the longest for an appointment will be invited first. BreastCheck is working to return to screening women every two years as soon as possible.
We will send you a letter with your appointment details. You can check the BreastCheck register to make sure we have the correct details for you. We’ll send you a text message a few days before your appointment to confirm the details. Please let us know if you can’t make it so that we can offer the appointment time to someone else and arrange a new time for you.
