'We finally found a perfect spot for the bubble chair': Paula shares her beloved chill-out room

Paula uses the space for mediating, playing music… and relaxing on the best seat in the house.

Each week, we ask someone based in Ireland with a passion for interiors to share one photo of their favourite spot in their home.

Paula Nolan lives in Co Offaly with her husband Malachy and four daughters. Paula and Malachy built their home in 2008.

This week, Paula (@houseofisidoro) chatted us through her favourite spot: her relaxation room.

Chill Out Room - 3 Millbrook Grove, Killeigh-010 Paula Nolan Paula Nolan

What do you love about this part of your home?

This is our chill-out room, where I meditate every morning. I love that it’s completely different from the rest of the house with its calming dark wall colour. We have our record player set up here, as well as a CD player and bookcase, so we can play music and read here comfortably too.

What’s your favourite object in here and why?

I’m a big fan of the bubble chair with its view out to the garden. It is so relaxing and comfortable. It’s by far my favourite seat in the house.

Be honest: How much tidying did you do before taking this photo?

Not too much because there isn’t much traffic through this room. If it was the kitchen though, I’d probably spend a good hour or two cleaning it before a photo!

What was your inspiration when you were putting this room together?

I went for a dark colour on the walls and floors but I was also conscious that the space needed a pop of colour. For me, orange represents enthusiasm, happiness, creativity, determination, confidence and many more positive things. The result was the perfect chill-out space for relaxing and rejuvenating.

Is there anything in here you’d like to change?

Not any more. We recently moved the bubble chair for the third time in three years and now it’s finally in the perfect spot.
