Poll: Should pharmacists in Ireland be given wider powers?

It has been reported that pharmacy was unable to give a 14-year-old’s mother an adrenaline shot without a prescription when the teen took a fatal allergic reaction.

A 14-YEAR-OLD girl died on Dublin’s O’Connell Street after suffering an allergic reaction to a restaurant dish with nuts in it, the Irish Independent reports today.

A nearby pharmacy could not give the girl’s mother an adrenaline injection because she did not have a prescription and the girl passed away before she could be brought to hospital. This comes at a time when pharmacists have been calling to be given more power, like the ability to issue repeat prescriptions and intervene in emergency situations.

We want to know what you think? Should pharmacists in Ireland be given wider powers?
