1. Co Clare motorway plaza plans on hold… for now
Supermac’s owner Pat McDonagh’s plan to build a €10 million Barack Obama-style plaza on the Limerick to Galway motorway have been put on hold by Clare County Council.
2. Sale of the former Magdalene Laundry faces dispute
Dublin City Council has adjourned a vote on whether they should give the green light to the sale of the former Magdalene Laundry on Sean McDermott Street. The councillors ran out of time to vote on a motion this week, so it has been pushed back to Thursday 13th September.
3. Several new Dublin city hotels to see completion in 2018
Hotel group Dalata plans to open thousands of rooms in the coming years. The firm behind the Clayton and Maldron brands expects to complete several new hotels by the end of 2018.
4. Long-vacant George’s Street building to become hotel
Premier Inn has plans to open its first Dublin city-centre hotel on George’s Street. Last month, Dublin council gave the all-clear for the development of a new 100-room hotel in the building that formerly housed the Dockrell’s hardware store.
5. Residents speak up against new proposed cycle route
A proposed parking protected cycle route in Dublin’s south Georgian core have faced tough questions from local residents who claim the plans are “entirely cyclist driven” and not enough emphasis was being placed on pedestrian safety.
