22-year-old man extradited over 2024 murder of father of four in Finglas

The man is due to appear before a special sitting of the Criminal Courts of Justice this afternoon.

THE PSNI’S INTERNATIONAL Policing Unit has extradited a 22-year-old man who was arrested in relation to the murder of a father-of-four in Dublin.

Anthony Fowler (63), also known as Josh, was fatally stabbed in Finglas on 26 November 2024.

Fowler was found with injuries at his home on Dunsink Green, Finglas, and later died in hospital.

Last November, the PSNI arrested a 22-year-old man in Belfast who was wanted in the Republic to stand trial for Fowler’s murder.

In a statement today, the PSNI stated that the man was arrested on 5 November on foot of an extradition warrant issued by the Republic of Ireland and that he has been held in prison until his successful return today.

The PSNI said it continues to work with international partners to identify and arrest those wanted in other jurisdictions.

“In this case, we worked closely with the Irish authorities to arrest and subsequently extradite this male,” said a spokesperson.

They added: “If fugitives travel to Northern Ireland to avoid the consequences of their previous crimes it is only a matter of time before they are arrested and brought before the extradition courts.

“Our message is clear that we will relentlessly pursue those that are trying to delay or deny justice to victims of crime.”

Gardaí meanwhile said members from the detective unit in Finglas today arrested the man following completion of the extradition.

The man is currently detained at a Garda Station in the Dublin Metropolitan Region and is scheduled to appear before a special sitting of the Criminal Courts of Justice this afternoon at around 4.30pm.
